In sum, President Obama looks a lot like a War on Terror president despite his progressive political leanings—in defiance of his electoral base—and notwithstanding a successful electoral campaign based in part on an anti-war stance. The fact that two presidents with strikingly different ideological views have arrived at similar conclusions strongly validates those policies. That both presidents have come to the same conclusions from such different starting points could be taken as evidence that a robust, aggressive response to the attacks was and still is the correct response.
